Decision Making on the Water at The Speed of Need

Hefring Marine: Interview with Michael Given and Ollie Manser

Hefring Marine is an Icelandic marine software company founded in 2018. They serve to empower vessel operators and fleet managers by enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability through data-driven marine intelligence and intuitive decision support. Their flagship product, IMAS, is an AI-driven vessel navigation aid and monitoring system that provides operators of vessels and boats with real-time decision support to optimize speed and navigation.

Hefring Marine serves a wide range of customers across sectors, including search and rescue, defence, law enforcement, crew transfer, fisheries, pilotage, tourism, charter, and leisure. The Icelandic company partners with vessel builders and defence agencies in multiple countries. It also works with commercial platforms, including the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue and TM Insurance. The IMAS system has helped Hefring Marine’s customers reduce fuel use by up to 20%, cut g-force impact events by up to 87%, and lower insurance premiums by 20%. With a rapidly growing database of over 4,000 vessel trips per month, Hefring Marine continues to expand its product roadmap and opportunities with an advanced suite of intelligent, data-driven solutions.

Hefring Marine has recently partnered with MSRS Navigation, founded and operated by veterans. This collaboration brings together two leading innovators in maritime technology to address the growing global challenge of GPS jamming and spoofing in commercial and defense maritime operations. The partnership will integrate Hefring Marine’s patented maritime technology with MSRS Navigation’s GPS-denied navigation capabilities to create a comprehensive solution for both government and commercial maritime applications. Joshua Burton, CEO of MSRS Navigation, says “The increasing frequency and sophistication of GPS jamming and spoofing incidents worldwide are causing significant disruptions to maritime operations, resulting in logistics delays and substantial costs to the shipping industry. By combining our technologies, we’re developing a solution that will ensure reliable navigation even in challenging environments.”
